    * A chemical reaction called hydration takes place between the water and cement.
    * Heat of hydration - is the heat given off during the chemical reaction as the cement hydrates.
    * Rate of hydration increases with increased cement fineness.
    * During hydration, a crystalline structure grows to form bonds
    * Hydration begins as soon as water meets cement.
