Air entrained concrete and Non- Air entrained concrete
Range in proportions of materials used in concrete, by absolute volume.
Mix 1 and 3 represent rich mixes with small size aggregates.
Mix 2 and 4 represent lean mixes with large size aggregates.
Air –entrained concrete
* Normally used only in exterior environments, but sometimes specified for interior as well.
* Microscopic air bubbles are drawn (entrained) in to batch during mixing.
* Leave tiny air pockets for water to expand in to as it freezes so that it does not build up
pressure inside concrete and cause surface damage.
* Unchecked surface damage can lead to further deterioration in a cycle that can lead to failure.
Non Air –entrained concrete
* Used in environments that requires high durability of structures.
